CO CLARE IS SET to shine on the small screen once again with the return of the third series of Smother.

RTÉ drama Smother begins its final series this Sunday at 9:30pm and runs for the next six weeks.

Leading actress, Dervla Kirwan has promised a “tremendous ending” to what she called “the final series of a beautiful trilogy”.

She said, “I do hope that the people who have been very loyal to the series won’t feel that it’s ended anti-climatically, and that in fact we have absolutely reached the highest heights with this drama”.

Kirwan’s character Val will throw herself into a whirlwind romance and marriage in the final series. Wounded from the past, she is determined to put her own needs first for once. But when her daughters insist on churning up her past pain, she must make a difficult and life changing choice between her family or herself.

Seána Kerslake, Gemma-Leah Devereux, Niamh Walsh, Justine Mitchell and Dean Fagan also star in the series.

Moy House is the home of the Ahern family in the show which was filmed across North-West Clare with Lahinch, Fanore, Liscannor, Spanish Point and the Burren primary locations featured throughout the show.

Funded by Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland and the WRAP Fund and with BBC Studios distributing the project internationally, Smother, has raised the profile of filming in the Mid-West region providing employment and investment in the local economy. Produced by Treasure Entertainment, the show has also boosted local talent with trainees assisting in its production.
