WE HAVE to say we were feeling pretty proud when we saw how well Co Clare did in the Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards.

The Wild Atlantic Way came out on top as Ireland’s number one tourist attraction and voters were mightily impressed with the stunning coastline.

“Our judges described the route as a “game-changer”, an initiative that has inspired businesses to up their game, restaurants to revamp menus, and activity providers to introduce a whole new range of things to do,” the Indo reports.

The Cliffs of Moher came in second place in this category, proving once again that the Banner County is THE place to visit for breath-taking views.

Co Clare attractions featured in most of the top ten categories, with two entries in the Ireland’s favourite hidden gems list.

Doolin Cave featured at number three, with readers noting that “The Great stalactite has been growing undisturbed for half a million years”.

Loop Head Lighthouse also made the hidden gems list at number 10 and we have no doubt it will rank even higher next year.

The remarkably beautiful coastal walk from Doolin to Liscannor made the ‘Six of the Best: Irish walks’ list.

Indo readers commented: “I dare you not to be mesmerised on this coastal walk”.

Lahinch also featured on the list of Ireland’s favourite beaches, coming in at number four.
