*David O’Brien left delegates stunned with his decision to step down.

The annual convention of the Clare ladies football board was adjourned on Tuesday night after the meeting failed to elect a chairman, treasurer and PRO.

It was expected that outgoing chairman David O’Brien and outgoing treasurer, Geraldine Kelly were going to continue in those roles. They were the only nominees for the positions but when it came to filling those posts they both announced that they would not be going forward.

Secretary Monica Callinan who was returned for another term said she was “shocked and surprised at what has unfolded”

When the meeting resumed after a short break, the secretary’s proposal that proceedings be adjourned was accepted.

Clubs will be asked to provide nominations for the vacant positions and it is expected that the adjourned AGM will take place next week when it is hoped to fill the vacancies and also debate the motions submitted.

Elected at Tuesday’s night’s meeting were Christy O’Connor (President); P.J. O’Halloran and James Costello (Vice Presidents); Monica Callinan (secretary and Central council delegate); Edel Conway (assistant treasurer); Fiona McGonnell (registrar); Sheila Murphy (Culture and language officer), Carmel Bohannon and Christina Hayes (Munster delegates).

Posts to be filled include those of chairman, Vice chairman, assistant secretary, treasurer, P.R.O. and development officer.
