Shannon’s Eoin Duff has collected his first FAI Junior Cup medal.

Part of the Fairview Rangers squad that defeated Dublin club Usher Celtic 1-0 on Saturday, Eoin watched his side win the club’s ninth FAI Junior Cup title. They bounced back from losing the Munster Junior Cup to claim the biggest prize in junior soccer.

Played at Eamon Deacy Park in Galway, the tie was officiated by Pa Gleeson of Ennis who became the first Clare referee to take charge of the fixture.

Man of the match Clyde O’Connell netted the all important goal in their 1-0 victory. He headed home a James Fitzgerald free kick late on in the contest to see the Limerick outfit take the spoils.

In a close fought encounter, the Shannon teenager was not sprung from the bench in what was a memorable occasion for Fairview held behind closed doors.

Earlier this year, Eoin was part of the Limerick Youths side that saw their All-Ireland defence ended by the Ruairi Price managed Clare team. As Fairview hope to kickstart another dominant era, Duff who has strong family connections to Newmarket-on-Fergus will be anxious to play a crucial role as part of this.
