Captain’s drive-ins were held in Shannon Golf Club and Dromoland Castle Golf Club over the weekend.

The 2022 captains ‘drive-in’ at Dromoland Castle golf club took place on Sunday last when Jimmy McManus (men’s captain), Catriona O’Neill (lady captain) and Éabha Brennan (junior captain) got the season underway.

This will be a special year for the club as the Irish ladies open will be staged as the venue in September. Currently some major work is taking place on the course ahead of what promises to be another very busy year for the club.

Kilrush Golf Club:

In the Spring singles at Kilrush last week the winner was Tom Buckley (9) from John Stapleton (14). They were followed by Tom O’Dea (28), Tom Cleary (14), Brian Scanlan (7) and Pat Shannon (13) and all six returned 27 points for their rounds.

Ennis Golf Club:

The ladies 14 hole stableford competition played during the last week in February at Ennis was won by Ann Pyne Gallery (29) with 26 points from Joan Murphy (32) who also scored 26 points. In third spot with 25 points was Una O’Reilly (36) followed by Carmel Verling (23) with 23 points with fifth spot filled by Ann Casey (28) with 22 points.

Anne Casey (18) won the 9 hole competition with 16 points from Della Burns (19) with 14 points with third spot filled by Mary O’Halloran (32) with 13 points
In a senior ladies competition the winners were Alice D’Arcy, Bernie Brooks and Brid Cunningham with 33 points from Mary Gardiner, Maureen Moloney and Kathleen Pyne with 30 points.

A similar competition for senior ladies last week was won by Mary Lenihan, Margaret McEnery and Bernie Brooks with 56 1/3 points from Brid Cunningham, Mary Kearns and Loretto Torpey with 59 1/4 points.

Shannon Golf Club:

Declan Breen (17) won the 15 hole competition at Shannon last week with 40 points from Gerard Kelly (16) with 39 points with third spot filled b y John Kelly (14) with 38 points.

After 3 weeks of the winter league team Power of E. Fanneran and J. Pearse, P. O’Rourke and A. Carr, P. Clancy and T. McNamara lead on 222 points. This week’s winter league format will be a modified scramble and and it will be over 18 holes.

Woodstock Golf Club:

The Spring league continued at Woodstock last weekend when the format was fourball betterball. The winners on the day were Gary Thompson and Sean Howard with 46 points from Tony Coote and Jason Dormer with 44 points. John McGrath and Frank McEnery were next with 44 points followed by Ronan O’Looney and Joe McInerney, also with 44 points.

In a similar competition for club members not in th Spring league, Vincent McInerney and Henry Butler were the winners with 42 points.

The league continues this weekend when the format will be a rumble (one to score at the first six holes, two score in the middle six holes and three scores to count for the final six holes.

There will be a club rumble for those not taking part in the Spring league.

Members are reminded that the Costello Cup fixture with Ennis goes ahead in Ennis on March 26 and 27.

Sixmilebridge Golf Society:

Sixmilebridge golf society will hole its first outing of 2022 on this Saturday, March 12, to Ennis golf club. The tee is reserved from 10.10am and only those pre booked can play on the day. Full details are available from the committee.
