A MEATH SENATOR will be leading a talk on women’s health in the modern world this Thursday (tomorrow).

Senator Annie Hoey (LAB) is the keynote speaker at the talk which talks place at Treacy’s West County Hotel in Ennis commencing at 8pm. Women’s health in the modern world is the title of the event.

Formerly President of the Union of Students in Ireland, Annie was a national canvassing coordinator for the Together for Yes campaign and was also Director of Volunteers for the re-election campaign of Michael D. Higgins as President of Ireland.

Annie had a life in the theatre before turning to activism and has also worked as a Quality Management Consultant. She was elected to Meath County Council in 2019 and served on the local authority for one year until her election to Seanad Éireann. She has also worked with the Labour Party as Women and Youth Development Manager.

A member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health; the Joint Oireachtas Sub-Committee on Mental Health; and the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sports, and Media. Annie is also the Labour Party representative on the Special Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying.

Senator Hoey has previously called on the Government to remove existing restrictions on accessing abortion services, saying that it places an “enormous burden” on women experiencing crisis pregnancies. She said that existing abortion services are not working for women in crisis pregnancies, citing the three day waiting period in particular.
