Santa Claus received special praise from Ennis councillors for his ‘generosity and determination’ during a recent visit to the county town.

For the November 29th switching on of the Christmas lights in Ennis, Santa Claus was one of the main attractions and left a strong impression on many of the personnel that packed onto O’Connell St.

Staff within the Ennis Municipal District began planning the festive schedule of events in March with Cllr Ann Norton (IND) paying tribute to their efforts, she acknowledged that the programme is “growing every year”.

“I want to thank Santa, he arrived on the Friday night and stayed on the street for hours on end, he didn’t leave till all of the children got to see him, he didn’t have to do that but he showed his determination,” Cllr Norton said at Tuesday’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District. “I would encourage as many people to stay local and if they have a few pound to spend it in our local shops”.

According to Cllr Mary Howard (FG), “Our Santa Claus is definitely on the nice list”. She described the event as “a great success” and observed that Santa has been seen collecting letters at Bambinos from children all over Co Clare. Howard encouraged Christmas shoppers to buy local over the coming weeks, “Amazon won’t sponsor the Christmas musical or the bus bringing the team to a hurling match”.
