Signs will be required in Kilkishen to warn motorists if bridge rehabilitation works do not take place until 2022.

Road improvements to “the bad sections” and repair works to the two bridges on the L7010 off the R462 in Kilkishen were proposed by Cllr Joe Cooney (FG) at a recent meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District and seconded by Cllr Alan O’Callaghan (FF).

Following an assessment of the road by Killaloe MD staff, “section where improvements are required will be included in the 2022 roadworks programme,” senior executive engineer, Niamh Madden confirmed.

She said that an appeal would be made by the Killaloe MD for the bridges on the road that require works to be included in the 2022 bridge rehabilitation works programme which is managed by the roads design department.

Minor accidents will continue to occur during the wait for improvements, Cllr Cooney flagged. “I am very concerned about the first bridge that you meet going out, the road has really gone down”.

He highlighted, “A few people driving in their cars have hit into the dip on both sides, if it goes into 2022 signs at least will need to be put in place”.
