LARGER water grates have been sought for Portdrine in Cratloe due to the problems posed in the aftermath of heavy rain.

Current infrastructure at Portdrine Lower in Cratloe is not able to accommodate “the large volume of water after heavy rain,” Cllr PJ Ryan (IND) flagged as he appealed for the fitting of larger water grates. His motion was seconded by Cllr Pat O’Gorman (FF).

Throughout the Portdrine and Ballymorris area, “extensive drainage related works” have recently been completed by the Shannon Municipal District, senior executive engineer Tom Mellett responded.

An assessment will be completed by the local authority following on from Cllr Ryan’s proposal, Mellett confirmed “to determine the extent of works at this location”.

Cllr Ryan acknowledged the work done in Portdrine regarding drainage. He believed the “problems with shores” were as a result of previous contractors leaving them “slightly above the road”.
