Repairs to the car park at the back entrance to Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Newmarket-on-Fergus have been put on hold due to the Level Five restrictions.

Repeated pleas have been submitted before the Shannon Municipal District by Cllr Pat McMahon (FF) to carry out repairs to the Ballycar entrance of the car park at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Newmarket-on-Fergus.

He described the conditions as being in “a bad state” at the most recent sitting of the MD. McMahon’s latest motion on the subject was seconded by Cllr John Crowe (FG).

A contractor has been appointed to complete the works, senior executive engineer Tom Mellett confirmed. “Due to current COVID-19 restrictions works are on hold until a change of the guidelines”.

“This is a very old car park in Newmarket-on-Fergus. It is on the far side of the church and is prone to pot holing on a frequent basis and water lodges there which over a long period of time peculates through the tar itself,” McMahon commented.
