Insufficient resources will prevent an assessment of the hydrology of rivers in the West Clare Municipal District.

Resources are not on hand within the West Clare MD when it comes to assessing the hydrology of large surface water courses and rivers, senior executive engineer Alan Kennelly stated.

His comments were in response to a motion from Cllr Gabriel Keating (FG) seeking an assessment on the Rahona River from Bella to Carrigaholt “in order to alleviate the continuous flooding in the area”.

Kennelly advised that he would bring the matter before the capital projects management office of Clare County Council to determine if the request could be funded by the Office of Public Works.

“I am looking for a short-term solution,” Keating told the November meeting of the West Clare MD. Drainage work at the Lynch residence would solve the matter, he believed. His proposal was seconded by Cllr Cillian Murphy (FF).
