Introduction of a paint scheme for businesses in Ennis town is to be investigated as a means of lifting the spirits of traders.

Financial support is to be sought from Clare Local Enterprise Office who previously backed the Ennis Streetscape Improvement Scheme in 2016 prior to Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Grant amounts of up to €700 or 50% of the cost of any planned works were provided by the local authority to successful applicants.

A revision of the paint scheme was suggested by Cllr Pat Daly (FF) at this month’s meeting of the Ennis Municipal District. “Everyone knows traders are split on the pedestrianisation of the town,” and added that the return of the scheme “might reunite them and create a bit of excitement”.

Mayor of Ennis, Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) confirmed that management are to contact the LEO on the potential of a separate paint scheme for the town centre. Cllr Ann Norton (IND) stated, “It is important that something like this is supported”.

Previous success of the scheme before the Fleadh and in Lahinch prior to The Irish Open was referenced by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG), “the town badly needs support”.
