Landowners are to be reminded of their responsibility to stop hedgerows from obstructing public roads and footpaths within the environs of the Ennis Municipal District.

Citing Ballyalla Grove on the turn from Al Hayes Motors on the Gort Rd towards Ballyalla Lake as an example, Cllr Ann Norton (IND) appealed to the Ennis Municipal District to look at “tidying walls where branches and hedging are growing out of them”. Her proposal was seconded by Cllr Paul Murphy (FG).

Senior executive engineer, Eamon O’Dea outlined that the Ennis MD would remind householders and landowners of “their responsibilities in regard to keeping roadside hedgerows from obstructing the public road or footpaths. Where necessary the Council shall carryout hedge cutting and verge trimming.

“If Councillors are aware of specific locations where footpaths are obstructed can they please forward the locations to the Ennis MD Office,” O’Dea added.
