Lisdoonvarna will host the Irish Premiere of ‘The Only Punk Rocker in the Village’ this weekend.

Written and performed by Lisdoonvarna’s very own Dermott Petty, ‘The Only Punk Rocker in the Village’ is his latest play. It is set in 1970s North Clare where a teenage discovery of punk rock turns his life upside down and causes consideration, shock and misunderstanding in the community.

Only one punk rocker has notions of rebellion and grandeur exists in the village of Lisdoonvarna, an area that becomes invaded by the genre.

Petty’s play originated from a poem of his titles ‘When Punk Rock Came to North Clare’, which was published by Revival Press in Limerick. Joan O’Hanrahan is director of the play. This summer, the World Premiere took place as part of the Barnstable Fring TheatreFest in North Devon, England. The Royal Spa Hotel in Lisdoonvarna will host the Irish Premiere this Saturday with another showing on Sunday at 8pm.
