NEWMARKET CELTIC have received an away draw for the quarter-finals of the Munster Junior Cup.

Paddy Purcell’s men will be making the trip to Waterford to take on Ferrybank AFC in the last eight of the provincial competition. The tie is set to take place on the weekend of March 18th/19th.

Celtic advanced to the quarter-finals with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Shannon Town in Lynch Park, making them the last Clare team standing in the competition. Darragh Leahy and David McCarthy both scored twice while James Fahy netted a header to see them defeat their neighbours.

Upcoming opponents Ferrybank defeated fellow Waterford side, Tramore 3-0 and like Celtic played away from home. MJ Sutton hit the net twice while Paul Phelan also scored in that victory. They claimed the Jimmy Searson Memorial Premier Cup last season.

Should Newmarket prevail against the Waterford Junior League club, they will also be away for the semi-finals where their opponents will be the victorious side in the meeting of Peake Villa vs Fairview Rangers. The Limerick side are the reigning champions.

Clare involvement will be high with Regional Utd, the Limerick club are at home to Avondale AFC in the quarter-finals. They recorded a 4-0 win against Villa FC with Eoin Duff of Shannon getting the four goals. He is joined on the team by Newmarket-on-Fergus Rob Shier, fellow Shannon man Brian O’Connor and Sixmilebridge’s Filip Mostowy.

This weekend, Newmarket’s attention is firmly fixed on the FAI Junior Cup quarter-finals. The side captained by Eoin Hayes welcome Crumlin Utd to Newmarket-on-Fergus in what is expected to be a big occasion for the club.
