Replacement of existing benches and the addition of new ones is to be introduced in Lees Rd as part a 2021 Works Plan.

Work was due to commence “immediately in the New Year” for the replacement and provision of benches at Lees Rd under the 2021 Works Plan, manager of the facility Tim Forde confirmed.

He outlined that its Budget for 2020 had been spent “due to the onset of the pandemic, and the additional costs required to follow HSE/Government guidelines”.

An update was sought by Cllr Mary Howard (FG) regarding the “promised provision and reinstatement of seating”.

Speaking at a recent meeting of the Ennis Municipal District, Cllr Howard flagged that an everyday discussion at Lees Rd was persons looking for seating. “There are people of all ages there. When I go there, I go straight for the woods because it is so peaceful, it is really a beautiful place and we’re lucky to have it”.

There is currently only one bench at the amenity, she highlighted. “One was removed because it was vandalised earlier this year. It has been something requested time and time again. I would love to see something happening”. She was supported in her call by Cllr Paul Murphy (FG).
