The 29thย Mountshannonย Arts Festival will take place from May 29 to June 2, 2025, in the East Clare village ofย Mountshannon. With this yearโ€™s theme of โ€œEvolutionโ€, the festival promises an exciting lineup of music, visual art, performance, workshops, and community engagement, reflecting nearly three decades of growth and cultural enrichment.

This yearโ€™s program is packed with varietyโ€”from headline music acts like Mary Coughlan (May 30) and Jiggy (June 1), to intimate spoken word sessions, workshops, and childrenโ€™s events. One major highlight is the Eco Showboat โ€“ Journey to the East, docking inย Mountshannonย from May 25โ€“29, which includes talks, food, and performances onboard a solar-powered vessel.

The theme of “Evolution” will be embraced and interpreted by artists and those running workshops. Mel White the festivalโ€™s Chairperson and a visual artist living inย Mountshannonย explained to The Clare Echo that all of the committee members have a different view of this year’s theme.

โ€œFor me itโ€™s about how we have evolved as a festival. Going from a little stage with a small number of people to having five to six thousand visitors is incredible.โ€

With a wide variety of events and workshops taking place across the 5 days Mel encourages attendees to take this opportunity to try something new. From childrenโ€™s programs to art installations, from live music in the marquee to immersive workshops, theย Mountshannonย Arts Festival has something for everybody.

โ€œI think people should book things they wouldnโ€™t usually book. For me personally I am usually in a visual arts space so last year I took part in spoken word and poetry workshops and I thought Iโ€™d feel uncomfortable and I wouldnโ€™t understand but I actually really enjoyed it. So I would encourage people to branch out and try new things.โ€

The team behind the festival is made up of ten committee members and many local volunteers. With planning for each year starting in September, Mel explained that the committee members are the driving force behind the annual event.

With a milestone mark of 30 years coming up in 2026 Mel has a clear vision for the future of Theย Mountshannonย Arts Festival.

“I think we have reached our capacity in terms of numbers now, so going forward we will be working on qualityโ€”bringing in the best artists and workshops we can.”
