EMERGENCY services and crew from Clare County Council are working to clean up an oil spill on the main Ennis to Ennistymon road with motorists urged to drive slowly on the route.

An alarm was first raised after 12pm on Friday afternoon of an oil spill on the N85 with high volumes of traffic making their way to the county town on what is proving to be of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Clare FM have reported that it is “a significant oil spill” along the entirety of the 26km route passing Ennis, Kilnamona, Inagh, Maurice’s Mills and Ennistymon.

Staff from Clare County Council are working in tandem with emergency services to resolve the situation.

Gardaí are urging motorists to slow down and drive with caution in the area over the course of the coming hours.
