Clare’s senior hurlers are set to be without regular defender Seadna Morey for the 2021 inter-county season.

As previously reported by The Clare Echo, Kilmaley’s Bradley Higgins and Aaron Fitzgerald of Éire Óg were recruited to the senior panel by manager Brian Lohan in recent weeks.

However Lohan has been dealt a blow with reports that Sixmilebridge’s Seadna Morey will not be part of the county squad this season. A three-time U21 All-Ireland and Munster winner, Seadna played in every single minute of the 2020 championship campaign for Clare as they exited at the All-Ireland quarter-final at the hands of Waterford. Earlier in the year, he collected his fifth Clare SHC medal when Sixmilebridge defeated O’Callaghans Mills in the county final.

Morey is said to be taking some time out for Clare’s 2021 inter-county campaign, The Irish Examiner was first to report. The twenty seven year old was first called up to the senior panel for Davy Fitzgerald’s first year in charge back in 2012. He was introduced from the bench a year later when Clare were crowned All-Ireland champions.

Both Aaron Cunningham and Cathal McInerney previously confirmed their departures from the squad.

Clonlara’s John Conlon is expected to be back to full fitness in time for Clare’s upcoming season while his clubmates Colm and Ian Galvin are said to be returning to the panel.
