ENNISTYMON Community School are celebrating being crowned Munster colleges football champions.

A merited two goal victory over Presentation Brothers Cork at the TUS Moylish Campus in Limerick this Friday evening led to joint captains Conor Rynne and Alex Leyden being presented with the Corn Sheain Ui Mhurchu cup, the trophy which is presented to the winners of the Provincial senior C colleges football championship.
It’s a historic win for the North Clare school as it’s their first Munster title as Ennistymon Community school, an amalgamation of a number of schools in the town which took place in recent times.
Two first half goals proved key to the victory which will see the side in action again next week when they take on the Ulster representatives in an All-Ireland semi-final.
Centre forward Josh Daniels from the Kilmaley club who plays his football with Lissycasey, had a key part in both goals, scoring the first in the seventh minute before being fouled in the square two minutes from half time which led to full forward Conor Burke converting from the penalty spot.
The new Munster champions were forced into a late change with Jack Lavin coming in at wing back in place of Louis Griffin who was ruled out due to flu.
Playing against the breeze in the opening half it took them a while to settle and Daniels’ goal was their only score in the opening quarter while the Cork outfit had 0-3 on the board at this stage.
After points were exchanged, Ennistymon took control and in the last ten minutes of the half they landed 1-4 without reply to lead 2-5 to 0-4 at the break, goalkeeper Jack Gallagher landing the last score of the half when he converted a 45m free.
Presentation Brothers had the opening two points of the new half but the winners still held a two goal advantage at the three quarter stage after their top scorer, Conor Burke had landed two impressive scores from play.
Presentation piled on the pressure in search of the goal they so badly needed but they were unable to break down an Ennistymon defence which was superbly led by central players and joint captains Conor Rynne and Alex Leyden.
Each side added a point in the closing stages and the two goal margin remained with the game in ‘injury time’.
Five minutes of added time had been played when referee Kevin O’Brien (Limerick) signalled a penalty for the Cork side, penalising Josh Daniels with a black card.
Goalkeeper Jack Gallagher produced an outstanding save from Jack Tompkins, PRC’s main scoring threat through the game.
In what was a strong team performance from the North Clare school, Conor Rynne, Alex Leyden, Colm Breen, Donncha O’Dwyer, Josh Daniels and Conor Burke were prominent throughout.
