A man has been killed following a stabbing in Ennis.

Fatal injuries were sustained by a man in his thirties following a stabbing in Cloughleigh on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 3pm Gardaí were called to a serious assault that occurred between two men, one man was seriously injured and died at the scene.

He was then placed in an ambulance and taken to the Mortuary in University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place tomorrow morning (Wednesday) by the State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster.

Gordon Drive is currently preserved and is being technically examined.

A man in his late thirties was later arrested and is currently detained at Ennis Garda Station under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the area of Cloughleigh Estate/Gordon Drive, Ennis this afternoon between 2.30p.m. and 3.30p.m. and who can assist them in this investigation, and also to any road users who may have camera footage that would assist Gardaí, they can contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 – 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
