A MAN HAS died following a two vehicle collision in Carron at the Clare Stages Rally.

Motorsport Ireland have confirmed that one man has died during the fourth stage of the Clare Stages Rally. The Clare Echo understands that the individual was a navigator involved in the competition.

In a statement, Motorsport Ireland extended its “deepest sympathies” to the family and friends of the competitor who was fatally injured “during a tragic accident”.

The statement added, “Motorsport Ireland and its amalgamated clubs are recognised internationally for operating to the highest standards of motorsport safety for competitors and spectators in line win the best practice of the FIA”.

The driver of the second car involved in the incident has been transferred to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) to receive treatment for the injuries sustained.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a serious two vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at approximately 1:30pm on Sunday in Carron.

Local diversions have been put in place with the road currently closed.

According to a spokesperson for Clare Motorclub, “The relevant authorities were immediately advised of the incident and emergency services are in attendance at the scene. The event has been halted and a further statement will be issued in due course”.
