AN ENNIS road described as “one of the busiest” in Co Clare is to be resurfaced.

Cllr Pat Daly (FF) led the call for an upgrade of the road from St Flannan’s College roundabout to Clareabbey roundabout.

Acting senior executive engineer in the Ennis Municipal District, Barry Conway confirmed that the route had been included in the 2022 Schedule of Municipal District Works (SMDW) for resurfacing.

“It is one of the busiest roads in the county and it is the main entrance into Ennis,” Cllr Daly stated at the March meeting of the Ennis MD. “It is badly in need of resurfacing on a regular basis”. Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) seconded the proposal, voicing his wholehearted support, Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) also backed the need for improvements.

Safety concerns were flagged by Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG), “it is a very important road as Cllr Daly has outlined. There is a portion of the footpath at the Halfway House that is elevated up, while this work is going on could a barrier be put up, it is a significant drop”. Daly quipped in response, “I hope barriers won’t stop people going to the Halfway”.
