A planned delivery of 22 social housing units in Tulla is facing a potential delay.

One local community group in Tulla has sent a submission to An Bord Pleanála which a senior official within Clare County Council has revealed may delay the project.

An update on the scheme was sought by Cllr Pat Hayes (FF) at a meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District on Wednesday. He detailed that a submission had been made by a local group and he questioned what timeframe the scheme was now at.

No revised dates on the delivery of the scheme which was originally due to commence construction in mid 2020 were provided.

“It’s following process,” Director of Service Anne Haugh confirmed. “The reason for the delay is because of the submission made to An Bord Pleanála which sought clarification on whether an environmental impact report was required”.

Clare County Council conducted a screening report of the area which An Bord Pleanála are now looking for a copy of. “The screening report indicated a full environmental report was not required. We have to wait for a response from An Bord Pleanála before we come back to you,” Haugh added.

Cathaoirleach of the Killaloe MD, Cllr Pat Burke (FG) queried, “It may or may not hold up the project” to which the Director responded, “It may”.

Cllr Hayes pointed out that it is due to be on the agenda for the February meeting of the local authority. “My opinion is that we need to know in advance what An Bord Pleanála’s views are before making a decision”.
