An Ennis teenager was chosen ahead of young actors from all over Ireland for the lead role in a short film that shoots in Clare this weekend.

Seventeen year old, Cian Hughes from Ennis stars in This Is Me, a short film produced by Creative Ireland and Clare County Council. Written by Sinéad Collopy who lives in Barefield, the short is produced by Maeve McGrath and Keith Bogue and directed by Roisin Kearney.

Hughes is a student at Rice College. He has had an interest in performing arts since doing speech and drama while attending Ennis CBS, at secondary school he has continued his love for music and stage where he plays piano and guitar.

Young trainee participants will join industry professionals across the course of the weekend fulfilling one aim of the project which is to develop film skills in the county. Trainees will learn how to move a short film into production and will get an opportunity to explore film making skills with the support of the production team.

Open castings were held in Ennis for the young actor roles in the film. After reviewing auditions, the director met with a short list of actors and Cian was selected to play the lead role of Patrick.

Producer Keith Bogue said both he and Maeve McGrath “are looking forward to bringing Clare screenwriter, Sinead Collopy’s script to the big screen. The Creative Ireland team and Clare County Council have been outstanding in their support and vision for this project.”
