Police in Greece have arrested a twenty year old man in connection with the death of Niall O’Brien who maintains strong family connections to Broadford.

Despite initial reports that Niall (22) died after being struck by a car causing him to fall on the road, it has now emerged that it was a hit from another male that led to him hitting the ground.

A twenty year old from Ireland has been arrested by Greek police where he is being questioned on Niall’s death. The alleged assault occurred on Chora which is the largest town on the island of Ios.

Niall’s body had been sent to Athens where a post-mortem is to be carried out.

The Clare Echo understands that the twenty year old facing questioning from the Police was not part of the group that travelled to Greece with Niall.

From Castletroy, Niall hurled with Broadford and played his most recent match for the club over a week ago before departing on holidays.
