A new road which would link two of Clare’s busiest routes has been put on the backburner due to insufficient funds.

In the Draft Ennis and Environs Local Area Plan 2015-2021, close attention was given to infrastructure safeguards for a link between the Tulla Rd and the Gort Rd. At a meeting of the Economic Development SPC, Mayor of Ennis Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy asked “What progress is being made to connect” the two roads.

Liam Conneally, Clare County Council’s Director of Econmic Development informed the meeting that infrastructure for the Gort Rd to Tulla Rd link and also from Clonroad to the back of the Ennis Mart had been provided.

“Those infrastructure safeguards are all there but it’s all about the money. It would have been really beneficial if the Information Park bid for funding was successful, one would lead to the other”, he said.
