Administration of COVID-19 vaccines are to begin in Clare nursing homes in the beginning of January.

Draft plans developed by the HSE outline that vaccination teams will travel to each of the 583 HIQA older persons residential care facilities across the country, both public and private, to administer two doses over a six-week period.

A target of injecting 35 vaccines per day has been set by the HSE while it is estimated that it will take 12 minutes for each vaccine to be administered. It will take three weeks to administer the first dose, and a further three to deliver the second.

In Clare, the first vaccines will be rolled out on Monday January 18th, Kilrush Nursing Home and the Ennis Rd Care Facility in Meelick will be the last care facilities to receive their first jabs on Friday January 29th.
