A construction worker who died in Galway on Wednesday has been named locally as Clareman, Brian Callinan. 

Inagh native Brian Callinan was fatally injured while working on a construction site on the Monivea Road in Galway City on Wednesday.

Brian was aged in his thirties and was married to Marion. The father of two was a carpenter by trade and was the son of Tom and Bridie and a brother to his five sisters.

After the accident, his body was removed to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem examination took place.

An investigation into the fatal accident has been launched by the Health and Safety Authority.

In a statement, Inagh/Kilnamona GAA club said Brian’s death had caused “immeasurable regret and sadness” with shock rife throughout both parishes.

His funeral mass is to take place on Saturday at 12pm at Inagh church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. The family have asked that any donations be made to the Irish Red Cross Society in Brian’s memory.
