An inspection by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has found an East Clare nursing home to be substantially compliant in thirteen of the seventeen areas it was assessed under.

A HIQA inspector has said the systems in lace at the Lakes Nursing Home in Killaloe to protect residents from abuse are in need of a further review.

Fifty residents were present at the Killaloe facility on the day of an unannounced inspection on May 18th of this year. The inspection noted attempts to deliver a โ€˜high standardโ€™ of care, though noted the high turnover of staff in the home impacted employeesโ€™ ability to deliver on that.

Records at the facility show while allegations of abuse were investigated, the inspector wasnโ€™t satisfied the Lakesโ€™ own policy of safeguarding was fully adhered to. HIQA said this required a review from the home.

In response, the facility committed to organising more safeguarding workshops for its staff.

Management also said the designated person in charge at the facility will ensure any and all abuse allegations will be thoroughly investigated in accordance with its own policies and procedures in the future.
