A GRAND-NEPHEW of Miltown Malbay born former President of Ireland, Patrick Hillery has been named as the new co-CEO of the largest bank in the United States of America.

Conor Hillery has been announced as co-chief executive of JP Morganโ€™s operations across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Hs appointment was announced to staff on Monday. He will continue with his existing responsibilities as head of investment across EMEA.

He will share the CEO duties for the region with Matthiew Wiltz of France. They had been Deputy CEOs for the EMEA region but were promoted following the move of their predecessor Filippo Gori to New York.

Co-founder of Davy, Eugene Davy is Conorโ€™s maternal grandfather. His father, the late Brian Hillery (FF) was born in Spanish Point and was a TD from 1989 to 1992 and served as a Senator from 1983 to 1989 and 1992 to 1997.

From Dublin, Conor completed a bachelor of commerce degree in University College Dublin (UCD) before training as a chartered accountant with KPMG. He subsequently joined Kleinwort Benson in London and moved to stockbrokers Cazenove in 2002. JP Morgan bought Cazenove in 2010.

Between 2013 to 2016, he served as co-head of UK investment banking at the group. He subsequently became co-heading the firmโ€™s financial institutions group globally. In 2020, he was appointed co-head of investment banking for the EMEA region, before being named as sole head in 2024.

JP Morganโ€™s Irish unit, which can trace its roots to 1962, employs about 1,450 in Ireland, including hundreds in Clonakilty-based fintech Global Shares, which it acquired three years ago for about โ‚ฌ665 million.
