CLARE is set to bear the brunt of Storm Franklin over the next 12 hours, with a Status Orange wind alert in place from noon until midnight tonight.

Another Status Orange will then kick into place from 11pm tonight in some northern counties, however high winds and a cold front “will particularly affect Clare” according to Met Éireann.

“There will be gusts in excess of 110km per hour on higher ground,” said a Met Éireann spokesperson, who urged the public to remain clear of the coast today due to dangerous winds. “A cold front is crossing the country today and will particularly affect Clare.” There is also a risk of localised flooding.

“Some structures will have been weakened by Storm Eunice so extra care is needed with two big weather events coming close together.”

A Status Yellow wind warning is in place for all of Ireland until 9am tomorrow morning.
