Two Clare natives were honoured on Saturday night at the GAA Handball All Stars.

Kilkishen’s Pat Donnellan who has been an ever present figure in Clare handball circles as a player, mentor and administrator was announced as Club Person of the Year. Donnellan has played in handball courts all over the country and further afield while also continuing to play a pivotal role in coaching with his club. His children Sean and Ella have also represented the county and like their father have collected their share of county medals.

County secretary Paula Carr Whelan was awarded Administrator of the Year, an accolade she has been nominated for two years running. Though only involved in the sport for the past decade the Newmarket-on-Fergus woman has certainly made a mark boosting its promotion while holding the title of county PRO and subsequently took on the post of secretary. She has also positions within her own club and has been very active with the Blues hurling club.

There was no such celebrations for the trio of Diarmaid Nash (Tuamgraney), Chloe Philpott (Kilkishen) or Mark Rodgers (Tuamgraney). They were nominated for Male Player of the Year, Young Female Player of the Year and Young Male Player of the Year respectively.
