CLARE is readying itself to host Ireland’s first ‘fantastic’ genre film festival with the Ennis International Fantastic FilmFest (EIFF) covering Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy beginning next weekend.

A programme of features, retrospectives, international shorts, Irish shorts, student shorts, workshops, a stellar Industry Panel Discussion, an ideas Pitching Competition, a Film Pub Quiz, a Whiskey Experience, and EIFF’s very own Festival Beer are all on the running order.

Ennis International Fantastic FilmFest is committed to promoting and supporting established and emerging Irish Filmmakers in the Fantastic genre.

In a thrilling line-up, EIFF has Shorts and Features made by Filmmakers from all over the world. Irish talent from Clare, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Dublin, and Kerry, plus international premieres and exclusives made by filmmakers from Australia, Mexico, Rep. of Kazakhstan, USA, UK, France, Spain, and The Netherlands.

The opening night gala film at glόr on Friday October 28th is ‘York Witches Society’ co-written and directed by Liza Bolton, who will join us on the night. Tickets from glόr box office or online at www.glor.ie

The retrospectives include the family-friendly Hocus Pocus (the original) screened at Arc Cinema Ennis (formerly Empire) at 12 noon, Saturday October 29th. While later that day at Arc Cinema you can feast on Danny Boyle’s ’28 Days Later’, starring a young and brilliant Cillian Murphy. Screening at 9.30pm.

EIFF will host what promises to be an amazing programme of workshops, demos and panel discussion including a five-hour demo on ‘Prosthetics for the Film Industry’ plus free classes on ‘Hair and Make-up for film industry (open to 14+), both held at The College of Further Education & Training campus, Clonroad, Ennis on Saturday October 29th.

Across town at TUS Ennis Campus, a panel discussion featuring industry heavy weights led by US based producer of horror films and TV shows Tara Ansley who is also co-owner of cult fan magazine Fangoria. Panellists include Oscar winning producer John McDonnell of Fantastic Films, Director Liza Bolton, Producer James Ryan and internationally published author of gothic literature Dr Tracy Fahey.

Other workshops include ‘Road from Short to Feature’ with US award winning screenwriter/director Bryce McGuire and ‘Character Design Workshop’ with Ken Coleman, a mixed media artist combining fine art training with photography, traditional sculpture, 3D Modelling, digital painting and emerging technologies.
