Lisdoonvana’s Michael Garrihy scooped two awards this week following impressive displays in the United States.

On Monday was announced as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive player of the week. He followed this up on Tuesday when the NAIA named him the National Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

A goalkeeper with Tennessee Wesleyan, Michael impressed in what was his debut for the college side as they recorded an upset with a 1-0 win over Dalton State, a game in which he registered four saves in a row during his freshman debut.

He was in fine form when they had a 1-1 draw against Cumberlands pulling off three saves in what was a double-overtime tie. Their opponents equalised with two minutes left in the opening half when a deflection saw the ball elude Garrihy.

In March of this year, Michael signed with Galway Utd’s first team after impressing at U19 level for the club. Prior to this, he represented both Burren Utd and Avenue Utd as well as standing between the posts for Limerick FC.

Garrihy wore the number one jersey for his county in gaelic football while also donning the same jersey for St Breckans. He is the son of North Clare representative, Cllr Joe Garrihy (FG) who was elected to the County Council in 2019 and held the role of West Clare Municipal District Cathaoirleach up until June.
