Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body in Ennis on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 6am on Tuesday morning, passers by of the River Walk area came across the body of a woman who in her mid forties. Emergency services were notified around the time.

Circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear. The woman was walking with the aid of a crutch and wearing a dark grey top with black runners

A post mortem is taking place at University Hospital Limerick. The results of this examination will influence what line of investigation Gardaí follow.

Superintendent Brendan McDonagh of Ennis Garda Station outlined that there is no indication of foul play at present. Gardaí are examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anybody who saw the lady walking in the environs of Parnell Street, Woodquay or Riverwalk between 10pm on Monday night and 6am on Tuesday morning to contact them on 065 6848100.
