A renewed appeal has been issued by An Garda Síochána for information into Friday’s single vehicle fatal road traffic collision at Bunratty.

Shortly after 2:10pm on Friday (October 15th), a jeep which was pulling a trailer containing a number of cattle appeared to have swerved and flipped over. The driver and single occupant was trapped inside the jeep.

Emergency services attended and while initially responsive unfortunately the male who was 48 years of age was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene. His body was removed to University Hospital Limerick Mortuary.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the accident or that posses dash cam footage to make contact with Shannon Garda Station on 061 365900.

Funeral details for the man who has been named as Ken Smyth have been released. The Askeaton man was an engineer and the founder and owner of Palatine Engineering.

His remains will repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Thomas St, Limerick between 5.30-7.00pm this Tuesday. A funeral service for family members will take place in the Church of Ireland, Castletown, Kilcornan at 1pm on Wednesday followed by burial in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Askeaton.
