GARDAÍ are appealing for any witnesses to the fatal stabbing in Shannon in the early hours of Sunday morning to come forward.

At approximately 2am on Sunday, March 18, an altercation took place between a number of males at the Shannon Knights Night Club.

Two males were injured and taken to University Hospital Limerick.

One 23 year old male was subsequently pronounced dead in the hospital a short time later.

The second male (22 years old), remains in hospital, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A 19 year old male was arrested shortly after the incident and is being detained at Shannon Garda Station.

A post mortem on the 23 year old male has since been completed and the Garda investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí in Shannon are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information and in particular would like to speak to anyone who was in the Shannon Knights Night Club on the night of March 17/18 to contact them in Shannon on 061 365900, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
