Born to a Spanish father and a Clare mother, Anselmo Garcia McNulty has been included in the Irish U17s squad for the European Championships which kick off on Friday.

Republic of Ireland boss, Colin O’Brien announced his squad on Monday ahead of their opening Group A clash with Greece in Tallaght Stadium on Friday with further outings versus Czech Republic (May 6th) and Belgium (May 9th).

Centre-half Garcia McNulty has represented the Republic of Ireland at U15, U16 and U17 and plays his club football with Real Betis in Seville. In November, his flicked goal against Czech Republic featured on several online media outlets across the country.

Anselmo’s mother Maeve hails from Cahermore, Kilmaley where his grandparents Padraig and Greta live to this day.

As Eoin Hayes of Newmarket-on-Fergus collected the FAI Junior International of the Year at the organisation’s annual awards on St Patrick’s Day there was further cause for celebration in the county as Anselmo scooped the U15 International of the Year accolade.
