SHANNON’s first TD, Donna McGettigan TD (SF) was the grand marshal for the St Patrick’s Day parade in the Airport town.

St Senan’s RFC was the finishing point for the parade which followed the same route as in previous years.

Following the parade, Eddie Lenihan entertained crowds when telling stories in the community room of Shannon Town Centre.

Planned musical entertainment from Ray Fean, Eoghan Neff and Blackie O’Connell was cancelled but spirits were not dampened in Shannon.

On the honour bestowed upon her, Deputy McGettigan said, “I was so lucky and honoured to lead the parade as Grand Marshal in Shannon and what a way to lead. Thank you to the great biker team who led the way, to every single person who not only participated in the parade, did marshal, watched and cheered on, organised, donated or gave their time in any way to help showcase our town’s talents. I got a lovely surprise of a presentation at the end and flowers.

“We can be proud of our town, it has come a long way since its inception with a way to go, we have an amazing sense of community and I know together we can make our parade bigger and better each year. In the words of the certificate I received today, ‘the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members’. I am so so proud to call this town my home. There is no better place to be at St Patrick’s Day than in the beautiful county of Clare”.
