Newmarket Celtic are the latest club to secure the FAI Club Mark award after fantastic work from the officials and volunteers at the Clare club.
The club mark award is based on best practice in the governance, management and administration of a football club.
Founded in 1968, Newmarket Celtic is one of the most well-known and successful amateur clubs in Clare having won eight league titles and nine Clare Cups in the last decade alone.
The club also has a great reputation nationally having produced legendary Ireland Amateur striker Eoin Hayes and midfielder Stephen Kelly, both players having won the FAI Amateur Player of the Year.
Newmarket Celtic have also made significant achievements off the field as well with the club at the heart of the village of Newmarket-on-Fergus.
Over the last few years, the club has added an astro-turf training pitch to add to the two full-size pitches currently in use at the club.
The club is continuing their plans to progress the club with a modern clubhouse next on the list.
As demonstrated by the FAI Club Mark award, the current group of volunteers and club officials are looking to bring the club to a new level.
“I’m delighted to see Newmarket Celtic claim the FAI Club Mark award, a brilliant achievement from everyone at the club,” said FAI Development Officer Denis Hynes.
“The club plays a vital role in their local community and beyond, with their success of producing Ireland Amateur international players in recent years and having dominated Clare football with their titles and cups in the last decade or so.
“But, more importantly than that, the club have made great strides away from the pitch. They’ve improved their facilities, have a growing girls section, have established important links with local schools and businesses and is the real centre of the community in every sense of the word.
“I hope to see the club continue to push on in 2023 and with the dedicated committee and volunteer structure they have, I’m sure we’ll be seeing much more from Newmarket.”
