Bellharbour is to have additional signage and road markings installed throughout the village.

Following on from a proposal by Cllr Shane Talty (FF) before the West Clare Municipal District, senior executive engineer Enda MacNamara confirmed that additional road markings and signage would be installed throughout the village of Bellharbour.

Cllr Talty lamented the fact that Bellharbour “slipped through the net” in the last speed limit review undertaken by Clare County Council. “The village is suffering from Google and those coming along the coast road from Galway diverted off the national route for a 30 second gain”.

80km/h is viewed as too high a speed limit within Bellharbour, Cllr Joe Killeen (FF) commented. There is merit in putting together a list of all the motions seeking a reduction in the speed limit prior to the review, Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) stated.

Contact has been made with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on the matter who have agreed to increased signage, MacNamara said. “One of the big issues in Bellharbour is traffic is being diverted off the national route to Bellharbour”.
