Extra attention needs to be placed on St Michaels Villas as a potential project, a former Mayor of Clare has said.

Concrete road surfacing at the Ennis housing estate is to be inspected by staff from the Ennis Municipal District, senior executive engineer Eamon O’Dea has confirmed.

His comments came in response to a motion by Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF) to the November meeting of the Ennis MD which highlighted the “cracked concrete road surfacing” and asked that it be added to the schedule of works.

As she acknowledged increased walking has taken place this year, the Ballybeg resident outlined, “I was approached by long-term residents of St Michaels Villas, they are wonderful people down there. It is very cracked, it is very unsightly and I’m very pleased with the response”.

Greater focus on St Michaels Villas is needed, she felt. “I would like us to continue to focus on St Michaels Villas as a project that we will pay attention to. It is forgotten because it is off the beaten track”.

“It is a lovely traditional area of town,” Cllr Pat Daly (FF) said as he seconded the motion. “We have a lot of townies living in St Michaels Villas,” he stated as he expressed hope an improvement to road infrastructure would be forthcoming.
