Speed surveys are to be conducted in Clarecastle following complaints of “excessive speeding” in the village.

Mayor of Ennis, Cllr Paul Murphy (FG) flagged concerns relating to the speed at which motorists are travelling within the village of Clarecastle, particularly in the vicinity of the local primary school. The proposal was seconded by Cllr Clare Colleran Molloy (FF).

He reported that “excessive speeding by motorists on the way in, and out of Clarecastle” had proven to be an issue. Should the problems be verified, Murphy believed traffic calming measures would have to be introduced along with regular spot checks by Gardaí.

Confirmation was forthcoming from senior engineer of the Ennis Municipal District that speed surveys would take place with the results to be forwarded to An Garda Síochána. “The Ennis MD will be submitting a proposal to the National Transport Authority under Active Travel Funding for the renewing of the roads markings installed some years ago at Clarecastle and Barefield Schools and if funding is not forthcoming it will be funded by means of the Discretionary Maintenance Grant in the 2021 Roadworks Programme,” Eamon O’Dea stated.
