ENNIS could be following in the footsteps of Chicago next year by turning the river Fergus green for St Patrickโs Day.
Officials have been dying the Chicago River green annually since 1962.
Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard raised the possibility at Tuesdayโs Ennis Municipal District meeting and council officials agreed to look into the possibility.
โWe need to continue to up our game, to look at different ideas and novel ideas to keep Ennis and Clare out there in peopleโs hearts and heads,โ Cllr Howard said.
Cllr Howard referred to buildings in Ennis going green for St Patrickโs Day and the viral photos they produced.
She believes dying the River Fergus could have a similar effect and assures that environmentally safe dye would be used.
โThese dyes are biodegradable, theyโre not harmful to vegetation or to wildlife around the river,โ Cllr Howard added.
