An investment in the region of €1m is to see a wheelchair friendly lift and cross track bridge open at Ennis Railway Station in 2021.

Iarnród Éireann have made the investment which is set to make use of public transport easier for wheelchair users, individuals with mobility issues and those using buggies.

It is expected that the opening will take place after the Christmas period, in early 2021.

Speaking to The Clare Echo, Cllr Johnny Flynn (FG) outlined that he has been campaigning for improved accessibility at the station for the past decade.

“This will make rail transport to and from Ennis more accessible to all by having accessible use of both platforms at all times and improve travel times by eliminating current occasional delays of up to fifteen minutes when simultaneous safe wheelchair user access is required from platform one to both Galway and Limerick trains,” the Ennis representative stated.
