An illegal encampment in Ennis was among the properties searched as part of a Criminal Assets
Bureau search operation in Co Clare on Friday.

Seven locations in the Ennis area were searched by Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) personnel assisted by local Gardaí in the Clare Garda Division, Garda Armed Support (ASU), the Revenue Customs Dog Unit and Revenue Customs Marked Mineral Oil Unit.

Searches followed ongoing investigations targeting the assets and activities of an organised crime and incidents including burglary, theft and distribution of controlled drugs. A Garda spokesperson told The Clare Echo that close co-operation between CAB and local Gardaí through the Divisional Asset Profiler network also led to the searches.

CAB discovered €197,500 in financial accounts and seized documents relating to financial matters while the use of marked mineral oil in a private vehicle was also detected.

One of the searches was targeted at an illegal encampment at Ashline, an eviction of which was previously ruled by The High Court and backed by the Court of Appeal in November of last year.
