Ennis Food Festival

Celebrity Chef Gary O’Hanlon (RTE’s ‘The Restaurant’) will share recipes and cookery tips while overseeing a cook-off between Podge Collins (Clare Senior Hurler) and Tracey Guilfoyle (Ireland’s Fittest Family). MC is Fiona McGarry, Clare FM.

Friday October 12

8.30am – 1pm – There will be music at Ennis Farmers Market located on the grounds of Roslevan Shopping Centre, to celebrate Ennis Food Festival.

6pm @ glór – Launch of ‘Fruit & Veg’ – a still life/ group art exhibition, to include the work of artists: Dorothy Ledwith, Helen Lowe, Richard Sharp, Rena Casey Lewis, Larisa Bevillard, Patsy Ricks, Gloria Pahad, Vonnie Mahar and Angela Butterfield.
All welcome

5.30pm: Irish Tapas served at McHugh’s, Parnell Street

9pm @ McHugh’s: Final of the Home Brew Competition – public invited to participate in the judging, together with official judging panel. (Winning brew will be available for sale at McHugh’s over Christmas).

7pm: Whiskey Trail led by Eric Flynn of Chapel Gate Whiskey
4 pubs, 4 measures and lots of information about whiskey! Starting in Lucas’s @ 7pm, on to Knox’s, Nora Culligans and finishing at Cruises

Saturday October 13

11am – 3pm: Artisan Food @ The Market Building. Honey, chocolate, cheese, nut butters, pork and lots of other delectable goodies.

10am – 12.30: ‘Fruit & Veg’ Still Life Workshop for Children (aged 10 -13), with artist Richard Sharp at glór. Canvases, paints and brushes supplied. To book telephone glór: 065 6843103. Cost: €7.00

10.3am– 1pm: Artist/ art teacher Patsy Ricks will paint live in the foyer of glór and welcomes discussion or questions about still life painting and drawing from members of the public. FREE

12pm – 4pm – ‘Honey, We Have a Show’! Busy bees, live at Rowan Tree Café. Watch them work their magic to create delicious honey. Tastings available. This is a FREE event in association with Clare Bee Keepers

12.15pm: ‘Bike Buffet’
Whether you cycle a high-nelly or a racer, this cycle, eat and have a laugh experience is for everyone who enjoys excellent food. If you don’t own a bike, don’t despair, Tierney’s of Abbey St. will rent you one. No excuses!
Starter served at The Rowan Tree Café, bikes given a quick health check. From there cycle to Lees Road woods for lobster rolls (or fish) with hand cut chips from Julia’s Lobster Truck. Bike powered music system to provide entertainment. Cycle back to Ennis to Peckish Vegan Café for dessert. This event to be led by Roisin Garvey of An Taisce Green Schools Travel.

11am – 1pm: ‘Eat My Shop’ – Local culinary experts have been paired with shops across Ennis and asked to imagine the shop they are paired with as a piece of food. What would it be? What would it taste like? To find out, we invite you on a food trail through 10 shops in Ennis on Saturday October 13th. Savour a bite size portion. FREE event

Sunday October 14

6.00pm – 8.30pm Mallee Thai: The town’s newest restaurant, located opposite St Flannan’s College, opened its doors last month. From its excellent Asian fusion menu, they will offer a once-off ‘Festival Special 2-Course Menu’ with a choice of starters and mains for €13.50. (children’s menu €5). Delicious food, stylish décor, friendly staff and terrific value for money, what better way to end this year’s Ennis Food Festival?
