ENNIS’ Dean Casey has finished thirteenth in the World U20 5000m Athletics Championship Final.
Of the Ennis Track Club, Dean maintained his position within the leading pack of 22 after delivering a strong performance to finish in a time of 14:37:79.
Ethiopia’s Addisu Yihune crossed the line in a time of 14:03:05 to claim the gold medal.
Coached by Pat Hogan, Dean’s family are heavily involved in the Ennis club. His father Ger is a coach, his mother Maureen is the club’s PRO while he runs alongside his brother Dylan.
Earlier this year, Dean was part of the Ennis Track outfit that became Junior men’s champions at the ECCC Cross Country Championships in February. He finished first in this race with his brother Dylan securing second spot.
