With July coming to an end and lots going on in the garden, it’s been a challenge to keep flowers looking their best.

So, if they are deadheaded regularly, it will help to encourage new blooms, and with regular watering and feeding, this will help maintain your flower pots and baskets longer.

There are lots of plants to choose from to add movement to pots in the form of grasses and add colour around this. Some people have gone with lavender and trailing ajuga variegated, which can give all year-round colour. There are lots of combinations with perennials being put together like the lovely Achillea, nepeta and alstroemeria purple. We have even potted a beautiful red rose National Trust and surrounded it with marigolds.

There are so many combinations and all equally lovely depending on height, shape and colour you’re looking for. So there is lots of colour throughout the garden centre, and if you have gaps in beds or pots, we have lots of special offers in store.

We have a lovely selection of Hebe available, from Rhubarb and Custard to a lovely Hebe Sanuka. Lavender is always a favourite to add to pots or borders—for their gorgeous colour to the scent of calm, they are a winner all round in my book.

It’s lovely to see how the blues and purples can blend so well together from the likes of the Salvia Blue Swede Shoes to the Nepeta Purssian Kitty and the Verbena Bonariensis for height. If you have an area that needs a pop of colour, it’s great to see perennials in flower and colour to help you choose from.

Roses would need regular deadheading and feeding to continue to encourage buds to bloom.

A reminder of all the bargains in and around the garden centre at the moment, and we continue to fill pots throughout the weekends. Open Sundays 11 to 4.
